Tarihçe
Mersin Üniversitesi Matematik Bölümü 1992-1993 Eğitim-Öğretim yılında Fen Edebiyat Fakültesi bünyesinde kurulmuştur. Matematik bölümünün öncelikli amacı temel matematik bilgisine ve bağımsız düşünme yeteneğine sahip, problemleri tahmin edebilen ve bunlara çözümler üretebilen ve farklı bakış açılarından problemlere yaklaşabilen ve matematiğin çeşitli alanlarında çalışmalar yapabilen bilim adamlarının yetiştirilmesini sağlamaktır.
