The Faculty of Dentistry of Mersin University, which was opened with the decision of the Council of Ministers published in the Official Newspaper dated 27 August 2015 and numbered 29458, started to provide oral and dental health services as of January 2017. The main objectives of the establishment of the faculty are to educate doctors who have knowledge and skills and ethical values in order to be able to perform their duties in oral and dental healthcare in a qualified way and to educate doctors who provide dental health treatment services in universal standards. At the same time, following the current and technological developments, it is aimed to resolve complex cases with the presence of specialist doctors practicing in the treatment principles in order to prevent the patients from being referred to other cities and regions.
1 professor, 1 associate professor, 12 assistant professors teaching staff and 2 practitioners are working in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Oral and Maxillofacial, Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry, Endodontics, Orthodontics, Periodontology, Prosthetic Dentistry and Restorative Dentistry. In the clinics of the Faculty of Dentistry, there are a general patient clinic to provide treatment services, a radiology unit consisting of dental tomography and digital periapical x-ray, oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic to provide surgical services.
The Faculty of Dentistry of Mersin University started its educational activities in 2017-2018 education year by taking first undergraduate students. In addition to 62 students, 8 foreign students enrolled in the faculty. A classroom and a training laboratory at the Department of Basic Medical Sciences was available for use of Dentistry Faculty. The new building will be completed in 2019-2020 academic year. Mersin University Faculty of Dentistry has been the 20th most preferred faculty among 40 state faculties in Turkey.
In the first year of its inauguration, our faculty is aiming for contemporary dentistry training, which is the process of purchasing under-graduate and post-graduate students on the basis of both student intake and dental specialty exams.
